This year’s recipient of the Southeast Mr. Basketball award goes to Jaxson Halward. An individual who has continually demonstrated attributes such as leadership, commitment, and skill over the course of his career as a W.C.I. Red Devil. Four years ago, this individual introduced himself to the eventual coaching staff as an excitable young man who knew the future of WCI Basketball was going in the right direction – and he was right! Jaxson’s confidence in his ability and that of his teammates, was backed up with hard work and dedication. All of this helped drive the success of the one of the most successful basketball seasons in WCI’s history. On top of his two-time Sr. TVRA SE gold medals, a WOSSAA “A” Gold, and the OFSAA “A” Bronze medal that now hangs on his wall, he was also the tournament MVP at the Mitchell Bowl in November and represented WCI at the Boys’ Captains/Veterans game at the end of March.
Jaxson maintains this level of success off the court as well, striving to achieve being on WCI’s honour roll year-after-year while also actively participating in our school’s SHSM Sport program. He is a successful multi-sport athlete who was a starting middle on WCI’s OFSAA Volleyball team too. His ability to balance these expectations while also being our team’s leading scorer with over 20 points per game is a staggering achievement. Off the court, Jaxson advocates, coaches, and nurtures future basketball players in our community by assisting with multiple summer camps. Overall, an incredible recipient of the Southeast Mr. Basketball award.
