If you want to see a fierce competitor on the court, you just need to look into Sydney Scatcherd’s eyes when she is playing. Standing at 6’2”, Sydney is aggressive and motivated to help her teams succeed. Oakridge’s Grade 10 female athlete of the year last year, Sydney played three sports: basketball, volleyball, and badminton. In two of those seasons, she played for the senior teams. Last year, the Senior Oaks won a silver medal at WOSSAA where she was the middle blocker and in badminton, she and her teammate finished 4th in WOSSAA in spite of having never played badminton before.
Sydney is also an integral part of the Forest City Volleyball Club program. She has always been loyal to the FCVC program, its’ coaches and her teammates. Most recently, the 16U team in which she was an outside hitter finished 4th out of 124 teams in Ontario. This earned them a trip to the National Championship in Regina where they finished 4th in Tier 1 in Canada!
Sydney did not stop there. In 2018, she was named to Team Ontario as a middle blocker and led her team to gold in Vancouver. She earned her spot on the team again, this time as an outside hitter and helped her team to Silver in Halifax.
When she isn’t dominating on the court, Sydney is also quite the fastball player for the Springfield Brewers helping her team to provincial gold and earning a berth to the Eastern Canadian Championships in Halifax. In her last year, she received the Top Offensive Player Award in the whole organization with an overall batting average of .517! Quite an impressive young woman! TVRA is honored to have such an accomplished athlete in their conference and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
