Congratulations Keith Heard – 2022 Spirit of Sport Winner

A former Coordinator of Athletics for the Thames Valley Region Athletic Association, Keith has recently retired as the lead teacher at the Academy for Student Athlete Development (ASAD) at the Western Fair District and has been at that position since ASAD’s opening in 2018.

The ASAD program which was first developed by the Abilities Centre in Durham Region, allows high school student athletes to spend half their day training at the Western Fair Sports Centre including such topics as nutrition, high level sport specific training and physiotherapy while the other half of the day is spent in the classroom on more traditional academic topics.

The former athletic director at Saunders Secondary School in London has coached basketball, hockey and track and field for over 25 years and has been a volunteer on many education – athletic groups for that period.

He’s been a hockey coach with the North London Nationals, the London Devilettes and the Bluewater Hawks.

On the track (and field) Keith has coached athletes at the London-Western Track and Field Club and the St. Thomas Legion Track Club.

Behind the scenes he’s been a convenor for multiple local and regional track and field championships and 2014 was recognized by the Elgin-Middlesex United Way for his efforts.

Keith has spent a lifetime educating students through sport. He is an excellent role model for our youth, setting high standards for his students. Either behind the bench or behind the scenes Keith has always put his student athletes first.

Congratulations Keith.
