Fran Wigston Winner – Abbey Matkowski
This year the Fran Wigston award is given to a player that shows great dedication to not only basketball but to her community and academics. She is currently achieving a 90% average and has been on the Principal’s Honor roll every year of high school. She has been playing competitive basketball for the London Ramblers since she was 8 years old, where she has earned 3 Consecutive MVP awards. She was also a member of the Southwest travel team that competed in Canada and the US. She has always been a huge factor on the Saint Andre Bessette basketball team, being the person that will give her absolute all to make her team be the best. She is currently being recruited by Fanshawe College and numerous other universities, which would all be extremely lucky to have such a dedicated person and athlete.

Ms. Basketball TVRA Central – Tier 1
The Ms. Basketball award is presented to a basketball player who has made significant contributions to the basketball program at their school during the current season and this athlete certainly did! This year’s award winner is a grade 11 student who has been playing senior basketball since she was in grade 9 with the Mother Teresa Spartans. This year she led the team in scoring, averaging over 20 points per game with multiple 25+ point games and a season high against #1 in the province Cathedral with 30 points. Not only can she put the ball in the hoop, but she also takes pride in rebounding – averaging 10 per game and locking up the toughest opponent in any position on the defensive end. She is effective at all positions on the floor and is truly dedicated to her craft. She always shows up and puts in her best effort into practice and games while raising the level of play. She is an excellent role model and leader and held the title of captain this past season. She is truly inspiring…her work ethic is next level!
