The annual Girl’s East Captains/Veterans Basketball game was held at WCI on Thursday, November 30th. This year there was a junior and senior game with teams organized based on final standings. The Junior game was won by the White squad who came out on top, 35-27 in a defensive battle highlighted with some outstanding hustle by both teams. Olivia Elias (Huron Park) led all scorers with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals claiming the Junior White team MVP. Dakota Thomson (WCI) was crowned the Junior Red team MVP leading her team with 9 points, 4 rebounds, and an insane 7 steals.
The Senior game was equally exciting with significantly more offence. This time the Red team came out on top defeating White 72-36. White team MVP went to Jayla McPherson (WCI) who led her team with 11 points and a couple assists/steals. Liza Strik (CASS) was the Red team’s MVP with a ridiculous stat line of 21 points, 15 boards and 3 blocks. Overall, the games raised over $550 for WCI’s Festive Campaign which is assisting Oxford CAS over the holiday season.
