Secondary Spirit of Sport Winner – Stacey Farr

For close to 30 years there has been one constant in Stacey Farr’s life – basketball. Stacey’s passion for the sport played on either the hardwood or the playground has seen her win championships at both the high school and post-secondary level and at the Master’s Athletes level.

While attending Central she was a two-time OFSAA silver medalist which propelled her into an outstanding collegiate career at Brock University. In fact, she was the women’s team Most Valuable Player for the 2003-04 season, was named to the OUA West All-Star team that season and broke OUA scoring and rebounding records.

Stacey represented Canada at the Turin (Italy) 2013 World Masters Games in the 30-34 bracket winning the gold medal. She continues to play competitively, with her team hosting and winning the 42nd Ontario masters championship in the 40+ this past June.

At South Collegiate, Stacey is the coach of both the boy’s and girl’s senior basketball teams where her teams have constantly been at or near the top in the Thames Valley District Association (TVRA). The senior boys team represented the TVRA at OFSAA this past spring, the first time since 2004. Stacey is a coach that understands her audience. Her Halloween Haunt basketball practices with the girls are signature learning moments that her teams remember for years. She builds positive relationships with all of her players and they know they can count on her for support. When she’s not coaching her athletes she is out watching them compete in their other sports. She is a true ambassador of South athletics.

On top of all of her coaching in both seasons, she is also the convenor of both boys and girls’ divisions for the TVRA.  When no one stepped up to coach the first ever girls softball team, Stacey volunteered again.  When we couldn’t get a convenor for the league, we had to tell her NO when she volunteered because no one else did.

Always putting the students interest first and giving so many students opportunities, I trust you will agree you couldn’t find a more deserving High School Coach of the Year – congratulations Stacey.
