At the recent United Way football awards ceremony, a number of individual football awards were presented.
The Varsity Football Lineman of the year was presented to Adam Potts of Montcalm
and Bryce Prust of CASS was selected as the Varsity Player of the Year
The Dr. Jim Allen Most Outstanding Lineman
Nominees from the LDA conference were; Lucas DiCicco – CCH, Matt Coddington – JPII, Logan Henriquez – MTS, Zachary Fry – RMC, Matt Berezoski – SJSS, and Mike Chevers – STA.
From the TVDSB Central conference, nominees were; Rhys Tucker – Banting, David Legg – PCI, Matt Caruso – Oakridge, Trevin Johnston – EESS, Allistair McLauhlin – Medway, Nabil Farhat – Laurier, Joel Stenning – South, Jayden Corbett – Beal, Mike Pacifico – Lucas and Connor Shoebottom – CRSS.
Zachary Fry – RMC and Joel Stenning – South were presented with this award.
The Anderson Award – presented to the gr 11 or 12 player best combining football with academics and community
Central nominees included; Colton Tompkins – Medway, Ethan Martin – South, Kurt Nielson – Beal, Craig Coleman – PCI and John Pantazapoulos – Banting.
LDA nominees were: Anthony Cimino – CCH, Tyler Kunkel – HCSS, Justin Kariuki – MTS, Ashton Patrick – RMC, Bruce Maas – SAB, Alex Craig – SJSS and Tyler Tisdelle – STA.
Winners of the 2017 Anderson were Ethan Martin – South and Anthony Cimino of CCH.
The Bob Gooder Award – presented to the overall most valuable player in the league
LDA nominees; Daniel Johnson – CCH, Ben Regier – MTS, Max Nixon – RMC, Adam Riquinha – SAB, Willy Mboka – SJSS and Josh Walker – STA.
Central nominees; Trevor Simms – Medway, Dante Nicholls – Laurier, Tazie Vang Bell – CRSS, Ethan Martin – South, Ryan More – Lucas and Joseph Varfee – Beal
The Gooder went to Daniel Johnson of CCH and Ethan Martin of South. In 2016, Ethan became the first TVRA football player to win both the Anderson and Gooder in the same year. To win both of these awards for the second year in a row is a testament to his outstanding abilities on the football field as well as in his school community.
