Ms. Basketball Award Winner
The Ms. Basketball award is presented to a basketball player who has made significant contributions to the basketball program at their school. This year’s winner is Kimee Liu. Kimee was Oakridge’s co-captain this year. She was the leading scorer on the team with 20+ points every game, along with multiple steals and rebounds every game. Her fast feet, quick hands and precise shooting elevated the skill level of the entire team and was definitely noticed throughout the league, as the team finished 8-0 in the regular season. Unfortunately, Kimee was injured during Oakridge’s first playoff game, which affected the team’s chemistry and its ability to score. Although Kimee is an excellent basketball player, soccer is her real passion. She presently plays with the Whitecaps and she has already signed with Oakland University for next year. Congratulations Kimee!
Fran Wigston Award Winner
The Fran Wigston award is given to a player that shows great dedication to not only basketball but to her community and academics. Lauren Brulé is an excellent recipient of this award. Although she is a competitive volleyball player outside of school, she has made a positive impact on Oakridge’s girls’ basketball teams over the past 4 years as well. She was co-captain of the team this year and impacted her teams each year through positive encouragement and strong work ethic. On the court, Lauren’s ability to pull down a rebound, win a jump ball and finish a lay-up helped the team achieve an 8-0 record in the regular season. Academically, Lauren is currently achieving a 90% average and has been on the Principal’s Honour roll every year of high school. Lauren contributes to Oakridge’s school community as president of the Student Athletic Association and as a member of Student Parliament, the Relay for Life Committee and as a mentor. Congratulations Lauren!
